The high point of 2015 was being given the opportunity to serve as artist-in-residence with the National Park Service in Shenandoah. In my first two weeks in Shenandoah, many Appalachian Trail thru-hikers were just nearing the halfway point of their journey. I’d only been there a day, and hiked a few miles when a young man, who had hiked 1100 miles, asked me if I wanted any water or food. The generosity and sense of community struck me, and it inspired this piece about what we discover in Shenandoah, in National Parks, when we get outside – and outside ourselves. Special people, and a special year. ‪#‎FindYourPark‬ ‪#‎NPSAIR‬ ‪#‎Shenandoah
